Meet Mel 🙂

 

Mel Web is the Fun Moves adventure queen and one of 4 people who helped make the official AFFM trailer so special. When Mel isn’t busy knitting or hanging with her cat Stevie, you’ll most likely find her riding her bike and enjoying some tasty snacks. A mental health advocate, Mel knows all too well the importance of moving your body for your mental health, while also allowing yourself the time for some well deserved rest. 1. Tell us a bit about yourself! 

HI! I'm Mel. I love my cat Stevie, any and all mountain adventures (especially skis and bikes). When I'm not moving, I'm horizontal on the couch, knitting and eating good food.

2. Why do you engage in movement?  What benefits do you find that you receive from it? 

I engage in movement for the endorphins and to feel strong. Moving regularly builds momentum in so many ways — I'm more confident, I feel stronger in my body, and my adventures become more fun because my body is primed for them. 

3. What’s your go-to workout: stretch, strength, support or sweat?

Go-to workout = strength (my fave move is a deadlift), but should probably mix in some more stretch... mind you, I will never get enough of the world's greatest stretch

4. Tell us. Any cool adventures planned for you and your bike this year?

I'm headed to Kyrgyzstan this summer to race the Silk Road Mountain Race on my bike! It's a self-supported bikepacking race... aka I'm going to be carrying everything I need with me through the mountains and it'll probably take me 12 ish days. This will probably be the hardest thing I've ever done, and I'm both terrified and excited.
